Creativity through
conscience decisions
In everything we do we have the power to effect change: "The flapping of the wings of a butterfly can be felt on the other side of the world."- Chinese proverb
From the drinks we serve, the products we use, the salon’s fittings, and our approaches to turning hair dreams into reality, everything is decided upon to make the lives of our artists, guests, and the world around us better. By looking at the smallest of details Craft hairdressing has created a space that moves past purely existing and has purpose in every aspect.
Our flooring is made from carbon-neutral cork that is a true testament to regenerative sourcing, cushions our joints as we move around, and locks in 40% more heat than other flooring- helping us to save on energy use. The salon walls are painted with Earth Borne chalk paint, virtually VO2 free this breathable paint helps to destroy airborne impurities and releases negative ions to alleviate dust and allergens making the salon feel calm and tranquil. To further enhance this, essential oils are continuously diffused through the salon to reset our mind, body, and soul.
Over 90% of what you see in the salon is either second life (we hate anything going to landfill), made in the UK helping to support other small businesses or the big boys that operate in a way that we think is pretty awesome. Our amazing bar is the hub of the salon for creating an array of drinks and a place to unwind is made from recycled materials (that would of otherwise have gone to landfill) from the most awesome brand Evotops who are breaking down boundaries in cutting waste within the commercial industry and changing the status quo. All waste in the salon is sorted to ensure as much as possible is recycled, including the foil we use to create those seamless blondes and every lock of hair that falls on the floor. You will also see locally sourced plants to help improve the air quality even more, add to our beverages for a health-boosting twist and act as pollinators for our local Bee population.
By choosing to be a guest of CRAFT… you are choosing to support dozens of causes and better the community we live in. Awesome hair- really can change the world

We all love the hairdressing industry but we also know it has an ugly side too. Green Salon Collective is here to change all this through our specialist salon recycling program.
Founded by environmental experts, hairdressers and eco campaigners, they are the original authority on holistic salon sustainability throughout the UK and help to ensure as much of our waste as possible does not end up in landfill. The hair we cut off is used to clean up oil spills and feed soil with its high nitrogen content. The foil used to colour hair is cleaned, then repurposed to make new items made of aluminium so their life cycle becomes endless.

The modern milkman combines a traditional milkround with modern technology. They work with independent dairies and suppliers to create convenience with a conscience at the push of a button. It’s not easy leading the way to a circular economy. But we wouldn't have it any other way.
Their goal is to create a waste-free future, in which collecting, washing and reusing packaging is the norm. Eliminating waste, reducing pollution and making every little purchase count.

We are a cashless business to support a greener approach to currency by reducing transportation and cash maintenance emissions, energy consumption and deforestation.
A 2023 study by the University of Leeds found that producing a single £5 note requires about 1.5 grams of cotton and uses enough water to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool every four days.
The Silk Mill Tring history
Our beautiful building began life as a silk mill in 1823, helping to turn raw silks into fabric rolls to dress the rich and fabulous and employ over 20% of the local population. It was the brainchild of William Kay who relocated from Manchester to set up production closer to London to reduce transport costs and lead times. It then passed hands and became part of the Nathanal Rothschild portfolio, who elevated the love for the mill’s staff until it eventually closed in 1898. It was commissioned by the Royal Air Force in 1940 and became a barracks for the Dorset regiment and a production factory for components of De Havilland Comet’s and Torpedo detonators.
After the war, the Silk Mill became a production factory for cosmetic cases and was producing up to 180,000 lipstick cases a week for brands including Elizabeth Arden, Coty and Ponds. The Mill is Grade 2 listed and is now home to some pretty awesome local businesses.
